Theodore B.K. Walsh ‘73 Named Nichols' 2025 Commencement Speaker

Nichols School announced today that Barney Walsh ‘73, chair of the Nichols Board of Trustees, will deliver the 2025 commencement address, set to take place on Friday, May 30. 

Mr. Walsh, a Class of 1973 Nichols alum, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this year’s graduating class. After graduating from Nichols, the Buffalo native went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Williams College in 1978 and later earned his Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management in 1984. 

Professionally, Mr. Walsh served as President of the Bryant & Stratton Schools, including 19 college campuses across New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Mr. Walsh joined Walsh Duffield Companies Inc., in 1998. Since then, he has focused on strategic acquisition and growth of the agency for nearly three decades. He is a fourth generation family member and owner of the firm with offices in Buffalo, Rochester, and Medina. 

“We are honored to welcome Mr. Walsh as this year’s commencement speaker,” said Chris Burner, Head of School at Nichols. “His story is one of persistence, appreciation and positive impact in our community – qualities that we hope our graduates carry forward into their next chapter of life.” 

Mr. Walsh has also served Nichols as a volunteer on the Alumni Board.  Mr. Walsh and his wife, Amy Clifton, are the parents of three graduates– Sam ‘05, Ben ‘07, and Luke ‘12. Mr. Walsh is currently finishing his two-year term as chair of the Nichols Board of Trustees. 

Outside of the school, Mr. Walsh has been an active volunteer in the WNY community. He has served as president of numerous boards, including Benedict House, Millard Fillmore Hospital Foundation, Saint Joseph University Parish Church & School, and Westminster Church Early Childhood Programs. 

Since 1994, Mr. Walsh has guided the Bison Hockey Association, where each year more than 300 boys and girls, ages 2-17, learn fundamentals and develop their game on the ice. Bison Hockey teams have won over 50 New York State championships in their 65-year history. 

Nichols’ 133rd Commencement for the Class of 2025 will be held on the Nichols Quad on Friday, May 30 at 11 a.m.
