Financial Aid at Nichols

NEED-BASED FINANCIAL AID

At Nichols, our community is a tapestry of religions, genders and cultures, as well as economic situations. We seek a student body that represents a broad range of experiences and we encourage our students to gain a broader perspective by learning about others’ backgrounds and interests. The goal of our financial aid program is to close the gap between the total cost of a Nichols education and what a family can afford.

We encourage families with concerns about affording a Nichols education to apply for financial aid and consider our need-based scholarship program. To learn about our online financial aid service, Student and School Service (SSS), our Policy and Guidelines, How to Apply, and our Named Scholarship program, please see below.

About SSS

School and School Service (SSS) part of Community Brands is a division of the National Association of Independent Schools and used by more than 2,400 K-12 private schools and other organizations to help determine a family's ability to pay school costs. The service and process helps ensure that schools use objective procedures to evaluate your financial aid application.

SSS does not decide whether financial assistance will be given or how much to give. SSS provides the school with a report, which includes a recommendation of what a family should reasonably contribute toward tuition. All information from SSS is kept confidential.

Policies and Guidelines

As with all independent schools, Nichols believes that paying for an independent school education is primarily a family's responsibility. Need-based financial aid is provided as a supplement to the family's contribution. The Financial Aid Committee seeks evidence that a family's commitment to their child's education is at least as strong as the School's. With this understanding, our financial aid program makes every effort to meet the need of most eligible applicants. Decisions are influenced by various factors each year, including the availability of School resources, the number of qualified applicants, and overall budgetary constraints.

Grants vary widely to address the needs of families in different financial circumstances. Financial aid awards range from approximately $1,000 to 100% of tuition and estimated fees for the academic year.

It is important to note that each case is evaluated individually and therefore families in the same income range may have vastly different overall financial circumstances and therefore receive different levels of financial aid.
