Financial Aid at Nichols

At Nichols, we have a strong desire to serve all students and their families who can benefit from our program. We seek a student body that represents a broad range of economic situations. The goal of our financial aid program is to close the gap between the total cost of a Nichols education and what a family can afford.

We encourage families with concerns about affording a Nichols education to inquire about financial assistance or to attend our Financial Aid Informational session held in the fall each year. For more information regarding our financial aid process, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website.

About NAIS and SSS

School and School Service (SSS) by NAIS is a division of the National Association of Independent Schools and used by more than 2,400 K-12 private schools and other organizations to help determine a family's ability to pay school costs. The service and process helps ensure that schools use objective procedures to evaluate your financial aid application.

SSS does not decide whether financial assistance will be given or how much to give. SSS provides the school with a report, which includes a recommendation of what a family should reasonably contribute toward tuition. All information from SSS is kept confidential.

Policies and Guidelines

Nichols School’s financial aid policies and practices are guided by the National Association of Independent Schools’ “Principles of Good Practice.” As with all independent schools, Nichols believes that paying for an independent school education is primarily a family's responsibility. Need-based financial aid is provided as a supplement to the family's contribution. The Financial Aid Committee seeks evidence that a family's commitment to their child's education is at least as strong as the School's. With this understanding, our financial aid program makes every effort to meet the need of most eligible applicants. Decisions are influenced by various factors each year, including the availability of School resources, the number of qualified applicants, and overall budgetary constraints.

Grants vary widely to address the needs of families in different financial circumstances. Financial aid awards range from approximately $1,000 to 100% of tuition and estimated fees for the academic year.

It is important to note that each case is evaluated individually and therefore families in the same income range may have vastly different overall financial circumstances and therefore receive different levels of financial aid.
