Character & Leadership
Character and Leadership development is central to the Nichols School mission. Our students are exposed daily to an environment that fosters the growth of integrity, trust and ethical conduct in every corner of the campus. Through the G. Frederick Zeller ’47 initiative for character and leadership program, formal character and leadership lessons are presented by faculty and staff to advisory groups to enhance student understanding and practice of good character and to foster individual leadership qualities within our student body.
A-LEG: The Advancement of Leadership in the Eighth Grade program fosters mentorship between the 8th grade and the Upper School to create a sense of unity and increase Nichols' impact on Buffalo and the world.
Student government: In the Upper School, leadership is comprised of Co-Presidents for the Student Council and at each grade level, providing equal leadership opportunities for male and female students. In the Middle School, 2 students per grade are elected as prefects in the House System.
Club leadership: With over 30 clubs there are many opportunities for students to take on a leadership role in a hobby they are passionate about.
Athletic team captaincy: Participation in sports pushes students to learn the value of teamwork and leadership. With 14 varsity sports, captaincy provides the unique opportunity for athletes to set the example and inspire others.
