Nichols School hockey alumni Jacquie Greco ’09 and Hayley Scamurra ’13 played in the first professional women’s hockey game ever at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, February 28. Representing the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) Greco and Scamurra’s Team Women’s Sports Foundation earned a 4-3 win over Team Adidas playing at one of hockey’s most iconic arenas.

The exhibition event was also the first professional women’s hockey game to be showcased on a national television broadcast, playing on the NHL Network as well as Sportsnet in Canada.

Prior to the game, Billie Jean King, a pioneer for women’s sports and former professional tennis player who won 39 Grand Slams, spoke to both teams to commemorate the event.

The game was part of the PWHPA’s Dream Gap Tour, a series of exhibition matchups featuring some of the top names in women’s professional hockey. Emily (Pfalzer) Matheson ’11 joins Greco and Scamurra as players in the PWHPA.
