2022 Flick Fest Now Accepting Submissions

The call for work for the 21st Annual Nichols School Flick Fest Student Film and Video Festival is now open! Flick Fest is the opportunity for middle and high school students from across Western New York to showcase their creativity and filmmaking skills to the local community at the historic North Park Theatre and compete for awards and prizes. Student work submitted to the festival is judged by a panel of student filmmakers and curated into a single-evening screening. The 2022 award categories are Best of Drama, Best of Music Video, Best of Documentary, Best of Animation, Best of Comedy, Best Experimental Film, and People’s Choice.

The deadline for all entries is Monday, April 11. All filmmakers should fill out the online entry form and submit their film using a Dropbox or WeTransfer link. They may also be physically mailed in on a USB drive or SD card.

This year's Flick Fest is set for Thursday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the North Park Theatre (1428 Hertel Ave., Buffalo). The event is free and open to the public.

Flick Fest was created in 2000 by Upper School visual arts teacher Andrea Mancuso and her Filmmaking Video Art class at Nichols. Flick Fest is a forum for Western New York high school and middle school students to showcase the best of their motion picture pieces. In addition to winning prizes, students will have an opportunity to meet their peers, screen their own work in front of a diverse audience, and get a look at film and video work from area students.

“I look forward to students from different schools and of different ages filling the North Park Theatre,” Dr. Mancuso said. “They all come together to support and enjoy each other’s films. This year is extra special because for the last two years we had to have a virtual festival. This year the festival will be in person with popcorn! Come join us!”

Good luck to all of this year’s participants! We can’t wait to see your work at next month’s festival.
