Leena Jalees '24 Wins First Place in Spelling Bee of Canada
By correctly spelling "taxonomist," Nichols School freshman Leena Jalees '24 won first place in her division at the Spelling Bee of Canada, which was held virtually on November 29.
To prepare for the spelling bee, Jalees told CBC Kids Canada she would study for an hour or two per day. Her training paid off as Jalees had to navigate difficult words such as "polemicist" throughout the competition. She placed first in the intermediate category for students aged 12 to 14.
