Compensation Year: August 2025 - June 2026 (Full-Time Exempt)

Summary: Nichols School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Upper School Instrumental Teacher who will be responsible for leading our string orchestra program and teaching AP Music Theory. The ideal candidate has experience working with high school students in both large ensembles and small group or individual lesson settings. This teacher will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned musical experiences, classroom instruction, and public performances.

The position requires a skilled musician and educator who thrives in a fast-paced, student-centered environment; demonstrates strong communication skills; and is eager to collaborate with colleagues. The candidate should be comfortable adapting instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and maintaining
open communication with students and families.
Duties:

● Teach and conduct Upper School string orchestra classes.
● Instruct AP Music Theory and prepare students for the AP exam.
● Provide individual and/or small group instrumental lessons as needed.
● Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes musical growth and student confidence.
● Plan and conduct multiple performances throughout the academic year.
● Encourage and guide student participation in solo and ensemble all-county music opportunities.
● Collaborate with colleagues in the arts and across disciplines to enhance student experiences.
● Communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff.
● Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

● Degree in Music Education or related field (preferred).
● Experience teaching and conducting high school-level orchestra ensembles.
● Demonstrated ability to teach AP Music Theory or similar advanced music curriculum.
● Strong instrumental skills; proficiency on a string instrument is preferred.
● Experience providing individual or small group instruction.
● Excellent interpersonal and classroom management skills.
● Ability to inspire and motivate students in a supportive learning environment.
● Experience planning and executing student performances.
● Willingness to collaborate with fellow faculty members and contribute to the broader school community.
