Storyteller Karima Amin Collaborates with Nichols Middle School Students

Karima Amin, a world-renowned storyteller who formerly taught in Buffalo Public Schools and hosted a storytelling radio show on 93.7 WBLK, visited Mr. Abrams’ fifth grade English class earlier this month as an introduction to an exciting project.

This year, students will be working with Amin and other community leaders on a design challenge. They will have the opportunity to learn more about the social justice organization Amin founded, Prisoners are People Too, which educates the public about criminal justice and prison-related issues.

Amin has previously performed at Nichols School with her organization Daughters of Creative Sound, an African American women’s percussion ensemble she founded in 2004. Amin is also founder and director of Prisoners Are People Too, Inc., a monthly documentary film and speaker series which serves to educate the public about criminal justice and prison related issues.

We look forward to seeing the development of this collaboration throughout the school year!
