Advanced Acting Class Performing "War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast" This Weekend
The Nichols Upper School Advanced Acting Classes presents “War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast” adapted by Joe Landry. This live radio play about an alien invasion is inspired by the classic sci-fi novel by H.G. Wells and the infamous 1938 Radio Broadcast adapted by Howard Koch and directed by Orson Welles. In Landry’s play within a play, the WBFR radio ensemble gathers ten years later to recreate the Orson Welles broadcast that caused panic across the United States when listeners mistook the fictional invasion for news. Complete with foley art, commercials and jingles of the era, this is an homage to the golden age of radio and a timely reminder of what fear can to do a society.
The play will be available for streaming through Broadway on Demand for $5 per household from December 11-13, 2020. Streaming is through a special arrangement with Broadway Licensing and Playscripts, Inc.
