2nd, Varsity Small Schools

NGXC took a commanding first step in their competitive season by finishing second in the ultra-competitive Small Schools division at the Red Dragon Invitational on Chautauqua Lake.

Already in possession of ninth place on the Section VI preseason Coaches' poll, the Green harriers will look to be involved further up the table after this result, having bested #7 Allegheny-Limestone, #6 Fredonia, #3 Silver Creek, and #1 Maple Grove on the afternoon.  The only school ahead of Nichols in the division was out-of-state power Edgewood (Ashtabula OH).

Junior Holly Arrison cemented her position as NGXC's best-ever runner, turning in a division-winning 19:38 over 5K and a school record 109 Power Rating.  (The previous record of 105 was held by Paige Peltan '11.)  Arrison was followed closely by Sophomore Gabriela Siren in second place overall with another sub-20 time.  Rose Saperston completed Nichols' top-20 finishing in 17th.

Midpack lynchpin Samantha Meyo was injured on the rock-strewn backstretch and will be out 3 weeks; however, the Vikings look forward to the imminent return of Senior captain Zoe Farkash, who sat out this weekend with personal commitments.
