PE and Athletics for Hybrid Model/Remote Learning

We are prepared to have Nichols students participate in learning both on and off campus at all times for the 2020-2021 school year.
HYBRID MODEL

We are prepared to have Nichols students participate in learning both on and off campus at all times for the 2020-2021 school year. In our hybrid model plan, the following will occur for Physical Education and Athletics:

Physical Education

All contingencies for on-campus physical education instruction will remain in place if the school moves to a hybrid model of learning; however, the in-person teaching will be done to fewer students. The students who are not in school will be required to participate in a series of asynchronous physical education/fitness classes which will be age-appropriate and specific to the three levels of physical education offered at Nichols School.

Athletics

Nichols School Athletics is bound by the recommendations set forth by the state athletic governing body. If the school moves to a hybrid model of learning, the students who remain at school will participate in athletic practices as per the guidelines given by the state at that time. If they are unable to return to campus for practice, they will remain in touch with their coaches via Zoom and will be given sport-specific exercises, fitness routines and appropriate strategy.

REMOTE LEARNING

In the event that Nichols is required to move to remote learning, the following will occur for Physical Education and Athletics:

Physical Education

The students will be required to participate in a series of asynchronous physical education/fitness classes which will be age-appropriate and specific to the three levels of physical education offered at Nichols School. There may also be time built in for age-specific synchronous physical education instruction during the time period in which the class would have met during the in-person school day.

Athletics

If the school moves to remote learning, the students on athletic teams will remain engaged with their sport and with their teams specific to the athletic guidelines set by the state athletic governing body. Coaches will connect regularly with their teams via Zoom and provide sport-specific exercises, fitness routines and appropriate strategy. The goal is for the students to remain connected with their teammates and to be as prepared as possible physically, mentally and strategically for a return to in-person practice and competition.
