5th Grade to Camp Weona
On Thursday, August 28th, the fifth-grade will be venturing off campus for a day at Camp Weona, about an hour away in Wyoming County. Camp Weona is a YMCA camp that offers adventure programs, outdoor skills, athletics, and creative arts designed to build self-confidence, teamwork, and an appreciation of the outdoors. Orientation trips are a popular tradition at Nichols and provide students and faculty with the opportunity to get to know each other more personally and form connections outside of the classroom setting. Students will bring a bag lunch and a beverage to school that day, and they should wear athletic clothing to participate comfortably in all the camp activities. The fifth-grade will eat dinner and enjoy a bonfire and s’mores at Camp Weona that evening, and parents can pick their children up at about 7:00 pm from the Nichols parking lot behind Center ‘63. More detailed information will be provided during the first days of school. Friday, August 29th, will be a day off from school to allow families to take advantage of Labor Day weekend.
The fifth-grade team of teachers, as well as the entire middle school faculty and staff, look forward to getting to know your child and watching the tremendous academic and emotional growth that happens during the fifth-grade year.
