Nichols School Hires Josh LeRoy as New Head of Upper School

A message from Head of School Chris Burner

Dear Nichols School Families,

In early December I announced a search for a Head of Upper School. Sarah Jacobson currently serves as both Associate Head of School for Academics and Head of Upper School, and as I stated in the announcement, those roles need to be separated to provide each one the appropriate time and attention they deserve.

An internal Search Committee vetted and interviewed candidates, culminating in campus visits with finalists last week.  Following those visits, I am pleased to announce that Joshua LeRoy has accepted the position of Head of Upper School, effective July 1st. Josh brings a wide range of educational experience to this role.  He currently works at the Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, New Hampshire where he began his tenure as Senior Assistant Director of Admission and then Director of Student Life before assuming his current role as Associate Head of School and Dean of Students.  Prior to that, Josh served in multiple roles at Northwood School in Lake Placid, New York – Mathematics Faculty, Dorm Parent, Advisor, Coach, and Director of Athletics.  He received both his Bachelors in Mathematics and his Master’s in Education from St. Lawrence University.

Throughout the search process, I learned that connection with the community and visibility were important characteristics in the next Head of Upper School role. I am confident that Josh will fulfill these goals and much more.

Sarah will continue to focus on academics and curriculum development, and Josh will manage day-to-day operations. This move will strengthen and support faculty and the community in all areas.

Josh will likely return to campus this spring to meet with faculty, staff, and administrators.  I look forward to welcoming Josh, his wife, and his two sons to Nichols and Buffalo. Thank you for your support of this process.

Sincerely,
Christopher D. Burner
