Welcome back Amanda Simmons, Math faculty

Amanda Simmons has rejoined Nichols as an Upper School Math teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and completed her Masters’ degree at Northwestern University. After college, she taught mathematics in Los Angeles and Cambridge, England, and eventually landed in Buffalo.

Amanda joined the Nichols faculty in the fall of 1996. During her years at Nichols, she had opportunities to teach nearly every course offered by the math department. Simmons was a coach in both athletic and academic arenas. She founded the first Mock Trial team at Nichols and served as an assistant coach for various sports teams. 

Her time was briefly interrupted at Nichols for a three-year stint at Phillips Exeter Academy, but she shortly returned to Nichols in 2009. She left Nichols in 2018 to pursue her doctorate in Curriculum, Instruction, and Science of Learning. After completing her doctorate, she taught at the Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo and a small rural boarding school in Maine before returning to Nichols. 

Simmons was delighted to accept Nichols’ invitation to return to the school, stating, “I am happy to be back in my ‘old classroom’ in Center ’63 and once again immersed in the Nichols community that has been such an important part of my life and career.”
