College Counseling Wraps Up its Workshop

Nichols’ College Counseling Office wrapped up its week-long College Application Workshop, which allowed 25 rising seniors an opportunity to get a head start on the college application process. This mini-course, conducted by the College Office staff, focused on the first steps of applying to schools, including how to complete the Common Application, tackling the main essay, navigation SCOIR, and becoming familiar with College Kickstart.

The College Application Workshop was led by Kelly Jorgensen, Director of College Counseling; “We are so happy for them with what they accomplished, and we were impressed with their willingness to take risks in writing and sharing their main essays,” said Jorgenson. “There is much left to do, but with their common applications complete, a draft of the main essay, an organizational spreadsheet, and an idea of what’s to come…they are well on their way.”

“Each morning, students arrived eager to work and were motivated to dive in,” said Kerry Bennett, Associate Director of College Counseling, “by the end of the week, most applications and essays were near completion. The week ended with students feeling less pressure about the work ahead and energized for the coming year.”
New Assistant Director of College Counseling, Emily Olczak, had this to say about the week, “This has been an exciting week for all of us! Personally, it has been a joy to meet the students, and it has been great to see our students get excited about the start of their college journey. I am so happy to be a part of it.”
