Karr Parker Summer Grant Internship

A Summer Intern Grant Program was created in 1992 by The Western New York Foundation to endow an opportunity for Nichols Upper School students in grades 9-11 to receive financial assistance for a summer service opportunity or unpaid internship. This grant honors the memory of Karr Parker, Jr., who was a graduate of the class of 1937, a Nichols parent and former member of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Parker was a strong advocate of Western NY and of the responsibility of young persons to contribute to their community.

The purpose of this program is to allow Nichols students to participate in a service opportunity or unpaid internship over the summer in an area related to their interest without feeling the obligation to forgo that interest because of the need to earn money. It is also the intent of this grant to pay any expenses that might be incurred through participation in the summer opportunity.

The amount of the award is based on the number of proposed hours.  The maximum amount awarded for any proposal is $1500.  There are multiple awards available.

Students in grades 9-11 are invited to submit the attached form by April 14th to Dr. Maritime for consideration by the selection committee: amaritime@nicholsschool.org .

Mr. Parker’s interests included the health sciences, engineering, and work with animals. He served on the Boards of Buffalo General Hospital and Buffalo Zoo.  The committee will give preference to projects which have a regular service component and which relate to one of the interests described above.
