Upper School Advanced Acting Fall Play – November 19 and 20

The Advanced Acting Class, under the direction of Upper School theater teacher Kristen Kelley, will present three performances of “Middletown” by Will Eno this week in the Flickinger Performing Arts Center. This is the department’s first fully staged theatrical performance in the FPAC in two years.

 

Evening performances open to the public will be at 7 p.m. on booth Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20. Tickets are $5. The play is recommended for students in grades 8-12. Masks are required for all attendees, and distancing is encouraged at our public performances.

 

Winner of the 2010 Horton Foote award for most promising new play, “Middletown” is in many ways a contemporary response to Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.” Set in what could be any small town, USA, it’s a series of episodes in which characters explore birth, death and everything in between.

 

"Funny, moving, disquieting and uplifting, characters find meaning and make connections through even the most mundane and awkward of encounters,” Kelley said. “Nichols students in the Advanced Acting class helped to choose this script. We appreciate that like all of us, the people of this play have both strengths and weaknesses. It’s a truthful meditation on being human. We think it’s a good fit for our ensemble and we thank you for joining us.”
