Advanced Acting Class to Present Comedy Night Event on May 7

Nichols Upper School students in Kristen Kelley’s Advanced Acting class is producing a spring comedy show this Friday, May 7, at 7 p.m. Students will be presenting a short showcase of comedy sketches and stand-up sets.

This year, students have worked with two professionals with Nichols connections to hone their comedic skills and develop their performances for Friday’s event. Charmagne Chi, a professional actor, comedian and Nichols Middle School graduate, worked with the class in January. She encouraged students to embrace vulnerability to develop engaging stand-up comedy routines.

In March, the class also had the opportunity to meet with professional actor Alexandra Mathews ’11 to help develop their sketches. Mathews’ lessons were rooted in her training with The Upright Citizens Brigade, an improvisational and sketch comedy group which counts many popular comics and actors as alumni, including Donald Glover, Ellie Kemper, Jason Mantzoukas, Aubrey Plaza and many more.

This show is the culmination of many months of learning and risk-taking for these students. Friday’s production will be recorded and available to stream at a later date.
