Three Nichols Basketball Players Earn All-Catholic Honors

After helping the Vikings varsity girls basketball team to the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association (MMHSAA) Division B championship game, Nichols School sophomores Quinn Benchley ’23 and Fallon Griffin ’23 were named to the Division B All-Catholic Girls Basketball Team.
 
Benchley averaged 11.8 points, 3.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game this season. Fallon averaged 9.8 points per game and made 30 3-point field goals, adding 2.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.
 
Nichols defeated Mount Mercy on Thursday, March 11 in the league semifinals, by a score of 33-27, their second win of the season over Mount Mercy. Although the Vikings led at halftime, they lost a close-fought game in the championship to Nardin, 54-48.
 
From the varsity boys basketball team, Hugh Purks ’21 was named Honorable Mention All-Catholic. Purks averaged 13.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in his senior year. He scored a team-high 17 points in Nichols’ final game, a 75-57 loss to Canisius in the MMHSAA quarterfinals.
