Holly Arrison ’21 Signs National Letter of Intent with Fairfield University

On Thursday, February 25, Holly Arrison ’21 signed her National Letter of Intent to join the cross country team at Fairfield University this fall.

Arrison will graduate this spring as the all-time points leader in invitational wins, points and trophies at Nichols School among girls and boys cross country runners. Arrison is a four-time First-Team All Catholic honoree and a four-time NYS Federation Qualifier. She finished a career-best second at the annual All-Catholic Race as a sophomore, and placing third each of the last two years. Arrison was named Second Team All-WNY in 2019 and 2020 and was Honorable Mention All-WNY in 2018. She was also named an All-WNY Scholar Athlete by the Buffalo News this year. In 2019, Arrison competed at the Nike Cross Regional Championships and placed 45th out of 160 competitors, and she was ranked 478 out of 200,000 girls nationally in 5K cross country last year.

“I chose Fairfield because after looking at numerous colleges, they were the team and the coaching staff I really bonded with,” Arrison said. “Coach Potter has provided me with a lot of support at Nichols, and I wanted that support at the collegiate level too. After talking to the coaching staff and others at Fairfield, I knew it was right for me.

“My favorite memories from Nichols were away trips to Brown and any trip on the green bus. I think any invitational was so fun to travel with the team and experience the high competition at meets, I knew I’d always perform my best and make great memories with my teammates.”

“This is just such a great day for Holly, and it’s a great day for Nichols School and the running programs at Nichols,” girls cross country coach Roddy Potter said. “Holly is, by any standard, the finest distance runner – male or female – that we’ve ever had at this school. For her to get this kind of recognition and this kind of opportunity is a wonderful testament to her talent, and I’m excited and looking forward to her collegiate career.”

Arrison is the seventh member of the Class of 2021 to commit to a Division I athletics program, joining Gracee Donovan ’21 (ice hockey, Saint Anselm’s College), Maureen Foley ’21 (squash, University of Virginia), Anabel Gicewicz ’21 (lacrosse, University of Vermont), Kiki Greeley ’21 (crew, University of Alabama), Paige Gross ’21 (ice hockey, Brown University) and Tory Mariano ’21 (ice hockey, Northeastern University).

Congratulations Holly and we look forward to following your accomplishments running at the Division I level!
