David Leggio Begins Coaching Career at Nichols School

David Leggio’s professional hockey career spanned 11 seasons, including three for the top minor league affiliate of his hometown Buffalo Sabres. The Williamsville native played in leagues in the United States, Canada, Finland and Germany, and he represented the United States at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Now, Leggio has begun a new stage of his career, working with Five Star Bank and helping Buffalo businesses navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and the Paycheck Protection Program. In the hockey world, Leggio has stepped into a coaching role as director of goaltending for Nichols hockey and assistant coach of the Vikings’ boys prep hockey team.

"I have a strong passion for coaching. I’ve always had big interest in reading and listening to coaches," Leggio told Spectrum News’ Ted Goldberg. "I’m just trying to help these kids grow, and reach their goals. Whether they have aspirations of playing pro or college, or just being a good high school or prep player. Just try to give them some ideas to help them grow additional tools to grow their games and ultimately, for us to have team success."
