Three Nichols Students Named Buffalo News Prep Talk Players of the Year

At the Prep Talk Awards ceremony last evening, three Nichols students were named Prep Talk Players of the Year by The Buffalo News. Katy Knoll '19 is the Player of Year for Girls Hockey, Cole Donhauser '18 for Boys Hockey, and Maureen Foley '21 for Girls Squash.

Katy Knoll '19 is a sophomore forward on the Girls Prep A team. Knoll impressively scored 23 goals and 9 assists in 32 games, and led the team to secure winning records in both leagues the girls' hockey team participated in. Her performance has caught the eye of USA Hockey, and the Nichols Vikings look forward to another two years with Knoll as a teammate.

Junior Cole Donhauser '18 is the Boys Hockey Prep Talk Player of the Year, having led the CISAA League in scoring 23 points in 14 league games this season. Donhauser finished the season with 73 points in 59 games, and was an integral part of Boys Prep's strong offense. He also garnered attention from USA Hockey last year when he attended the USA Hockey Development Camp. In his interview, Donhauser noted that he looks up to Nichols alumnus Andrew Poturalski '12, who made his NHL debut in April for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Eighth grader Maureen Foley '21 continues the two-year streak of Nichols Girls Squash Prep Talk Players of the Year, with Isobel Brinkworth '16 winning this title last year. As an eighth grader, Foley already has a remarkable career in squash. As a two-time U.S. Junior National Team member, Foley went undefeated at the high school national squash tournament this year. She has had an undefeated season (11-0) at first singles, and is ranked 7th nationally among U.S. girls under 15.

We are very proud of Katy, Cole, and Maureen for their athletic and academic accomplishments. We look forward to seeing them play throughout the remainder of their careers at Nichols!
