Nichols School Boys Prep Hockey won the 70th Annual Lawrenceville Hockey Invitational at Loucks Ice Center this weekend after a 2-1 double overtime victory over Northfield Mount Hermon of Massachusetts. The Lawrenceville Hockey Invitational is one of the most prestigious prep hockey tournaments in the country.
The nearly 90-minute game saw 106 shots on goal, and Owen Gonter '19 scored the winning goal with 1:24 remaining in the second overtime.
Nichols goalie Robbie Nuchereno '19 made 55 saves in the final game and was named tournament MVP.
Throughout the tournament, Nichols played Caterbury, Lawrenceville, Taft and Northfield Mount Hermon. Goal scorers include Cole Donhauser '18, Owen Gonter '19, Dylan Lugris '20 and Ryan Leonard '19.
Nichols School has now won the tournament eight times. Their last victory came in 1993, and they won the inaugural tournament in 1949.
