Maureen Foley '21, a standout player for the Nichols School girls squash team, compiled a 3-1 record at the 2019 U.S. Junior Open Squash Championships in Allston, Massachusetts. Foley competed in the Girls Under-19 draw as a 16-year-old, and she advanced to the finals match of the second consolation bracket.
Foley has been Nichols' leader at first singles since eighth grade. In her first year with the varsity girls squash team, Foley was named the 2017 Girls Squash Prep Talk Player of the Year by the Buffalo News after leading Nichols to the HEAD High School Team Squash Championships, where they won the Division IV National Championship. In 2018, Foley earned the Outstanding Junior Achievement Award from the Buffalo Squash Rackets Association (BSRA).
Foley is a two-time team MVP for the Vikings and has helped Nichols extend their streak of consecutive Western New York prep championships to nine. This season, Foley and the Vikings earned their first win over Berkshire School since 2016 to reclaim the William P. Clough Cup, named for Nichols' 12th Head of School who had worked at Berkshire School prior to joining Nichols.
The U.S. Junior Open Squash Championships were Foley's fourth appearance in national competition for U.S. Squash, and she has previously competed for the United States at the 2016 and 2018 British Junior Opens.
Congratulations to Maureen on an outstanding start to her junior season!
