On Friday, June 1, 2018 Nichols School celebrated its 126th Commencement and presented diplomas to the 104 members of the Class of 2018.
Head of School Bill Clough welcomed the community with opening remarks.
Hanna Prince '18 served as the student-elected speaker. Earlier in the morning, Hanna was presented with her acceptance certificate for the United States Naval Academy and received a letter of recommendation from the office of Congressman Chris Collins.
The 2018 Distinguished Alumni Awards was awarded to Charles A. Hobbie '63 and Bonnie L. Padwa '79.
Chuck Hobbie '63 is the Associate General Counsel for the Peace Corps. He previously taught how to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL) at Kyungpook National University in Taegu, Korea and helped build a rural health clinic on one of Korea's poorest islands. Following his volunteer service, he trained Peace Corps volunteers at the School for International Training in Putney, Vermont.
Bonnie Padwa '79 is the chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital and an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. She has focused her career on caring for children born with cleft and craniofacial anomalies, lecturing domestically and internationally, while remaining actively involved in teaching medical students, residents and fellows.
Ramin Arani '88 was the 2018 Commencement Speaker. After graduating from Nichols in 1988, Ramin attended Tufts University and received a bachelor's degree in international relations. A Nichols Trustee since 2012, he is currently a fund manager for Fidelity Investments and celebrated his 30th Nichols Reunion last week. Ramin has long been a thoughtful guide and ambassador for Nichols.
