Two Nichols School graduates from the Class of 2019 are the first Western New York natives selected to the United States Youth Futsal National Team. Camryn Warren '19 and Marisa Warren '19 will take their talents to Argentina as the American team heads to Buenos Aires for three international matches from July 24 – August 1, 2019.
Camryn and Marisa, who have played outdoor and indoor soccer since the age of four, began training in November with Heart and Sole Futsal Academy in Akron, Ohio. Futsal, a small-sided version of indoor soccer, was recognized internationally as FIFA's official form of indoor soccer in the 1980s.
The evaluation process for the U.S. Youth Futsal National Team began with over 5,000 futsal players from across the nation, and the Warrens were both selected to the group of 520 finalists for the National Trials in Overland Park, Kansas. From there, they were both selected to the group of 12 to compete in the 2001 Girls Age Division in Buenos Aires later this month.
Camryn and Marisa both played integral roles helping the Vikings capture a second-straight Monsignor Martin Association Championship in 2018 and reaching the Catholic state championship. Camryn was named First Team All-WNY, First Team All-Catholic, and First Team Class B by the New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA). Marisa, who led all New York girls' soccer players with 22 assists, was named Second Team All-WNY and First Team All-Catholic. Both Camryn and Marisa were named to the Fall All-WNY Scholar Athlete team, and they were Co-Offensive Most Valuable Players of the Nichols' varsity girls' soccer team.
As seniors, Camryn and Marisa both earned varsity letters for girls' soccer, girls' squash and girls' lacrosse. The twins were both named Coaches Award winners for both girls' squash and girls' lacrosse. In total, the two collectively earned 22 varsity letters at Nichols for soccer, golf, basketball, squash and lacrosse.
This fall, Camryn and Marisa will both be attending Canisius College in the Honors Pre-Med program.
