Nichols is pleased to offer a Driver Education course to our students during the school year. Nichols Driver Education combines the benefits of practical driving skills and defensive driving techniques for the safe and responsible operation of a motor vehicle. The class is conveniently scheduled on school days to allow students to be able participate in all after-school and weekend activities.
We contract with the Buffalo Driving School to provide both the classroom and in-car instruction. The course we provide is a New York State Department of Education certified program and we are required to adhere to all standards for the course. Successful completion of this course will qualify the student for MV-285 certification (formerly Blue Card) and insurance reduction certificate. (Please check with your insurance company to ensure this fulfills their requirements for a premium reduction.)
The program consists of 24 hours of in-car instruction, including six hours behind the wheel and an additional 24 hours of classroom instruction.
Students must turn 16 years of age by January 21, 2019 and hold a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license to participate.
This course runs from January 22nd – May 3rd. Classroom sessions are held before school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00 a.m. in the Gisel lecture hall in Center 63. The in-car instruction will be coordinated around free time in the student’s schedule. Students must attend all 24 classes and coordinate all 36 sessions of in-car instruction in order to meet the State Education Department requirements for successful completion. If they do not complete the time requirement or earn a passing grade, they cannot be issued a certificate.
Cost: $475.00 – Non-refundable once the course begins. This fee will be billed to the student’s school account
