PSAT Preview Classes

For the 2020-2021 school year, we have created a new school-wide standardized testing program that involves all Upper School students. Our goal is to give families more information at an earlier point in a student’s Upper School academic career. The College Office will then be better able to guide families on this crucial part of the college application process.

On Saturday, October 10, we are hosting free preview classes for Nichols freshmen who will be taking the PSAT 9, and for juniors and some sophomores who will be taking the PSAT NMSQT. The PSAT 9 Preview Class runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the PSAT NMSQT Preview Class runs from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

Registration is required for both the PSAT 9 and PSAT NMSQT Preview Classes. Please register by Thursday, October 8.

A Zoom link to connect to the preview class will be in your confirmation email, and practice test-prep materials will be sent in a separate email from the Nichols College Center. These practice materials are suggested but not required for participation in the class.

Students will take the PSAT 9 or PSAT NMSQT on Wednesday, October 14.

Class Information

List of 2 items.

  • Virtual PSAT 9 Preview Class

Nichols School will be hosting a free PSAT 9 Preview Class on Saturday, October 10 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

This session will provide an overview of every section of the PSAT 9, including timing, content and effective strategies for managing test anxiety. There will be an opportunity for a question-and-answer period for students and families. Questions about testing are welcomed in advance at the time of registration for the Preview Class.

We believe following the testing schedule, starting with early practice in the freshman year, will help students become more familiar with the content and format of the SAT and build their test-taking endurance and strategies. Early testing will also reveal areas of academic strength and weakness, enabling our College Office to make more specific recommendations around test preparation and the college process.

The PSAT 9 Preview Class will be taught by Chris Hill, Associate Director of College Counseling and Upper School Faculty member. For more information about the Preview Class, feel free to contact Chris at chill@nicholsschool.org or at (716) 332-5162.

    Additional Information:
    • The PSAT 9 test is taken during the school day on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Registration for the test is completed by the school.
    • Once registered, you will receive a Welcome Email with the Zoom link for the preview class.
  • Virtual PSAT NMSQT Preview Class

Nichols School will be hosting a free PSAT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) Preview Class on Saturday, October 10 from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

This class will provide an overview of every section of the PSAT NMSQT, including timing, content and effective strategies for managing test anxiety.

PSAT testing will also reveal useful data for determining areas of academic strength and weakness, enabling our College Office to make more specific recommendations around test preparation and the college process. For instance, some students may determine that they are, in fact, better suited for the ACT than the SAT.

There will be an opportunity for a question and answer period for students and families. Questions about testing are welcomed in advance at the time of registration for the Preview Class.

The PSAT NMSQT Preview Class will be taught by Chris Hill, Associate Director of College Counseling and Upper School Faculty member. For more information about the Preview Class, feel free to contact Chris at chill@nicholsschool.org or at (716) 332-5162.
