Contact tracing is done through the Erie County Department of Health and New York State Department of Health. Nichols will notify the ECDOH of any known cases of COVID-19 at school. We will then work closely with them to offer any assistance needed to help in their contact tracing.
The important task of contact tracing is dependent on the accuracy of our records. The following records will be utilized and analyzed when contact tracing occurs:
- Attendance records to determine who was present and onsite (both students and teacher/staff attendance records)
- Substitute employee records (substitute teachers, hall monitors)
- Seating chart of every classroom indicating assigned seats, enabling tracers to know which students sat in which seats and next to whom; charts will be maintained by the School Nurse; teachers are required to provide a new chart if any seating arrangements have changed.
The School Nurse and designated personnel will work with the Erie County Department of Health Contact Tracing Unit to determine close contacts of the individual who tested positive. Close contacts of our employee(s) or student(s) will be contacted by the Erie County Department of Health to advise them of the need to quarantine.
