Students write book reviews of pre-published books and get them printed in the national magazine, "Voice for Youth Advocates." VOYA is a selection tool used by school librarians and public librarians that select reading material for young adults. The students read the review copies and discuss the story and then collaborate on a review.

Chinese Club offers a chance to learn, share and celebrate Chinese culture through movies, craft making, cooking and more. The club organizes monthly activities and welcomes all students. The first activity this year was making dumplings.

Students meet in a friendly atmosphere to write and to share their work.

Students gather together on a monthly basis to celebrate music and dance in a free form after school.

The Gay Straight Alliance is open to all students, and is a safe place to discuss issues related to the LGBT community. In addition to discussions, the group sponsors presentations and events that raise awareness of the challenges LGBT people face, and work to connect with other Western New York high school GSAs for conferences, open mics and movie nights.

Health Education Awareness Resource Team is comprised of student leaders who educate their peers and work with organizations in the community about health issues, as well as participating in activities to promote health awareness.

The Jewish Cultural Awareness Club is a student-run organization to inform the Nichols community about Jewish culture. The JCAC holds events such as the Hanukah Harry Gift Exchange, the Rosh Hashanah Fruit Feast and other such meetings to inform the Nichols School student body about Jewish holidays, festivities and culture.

Naked Voices is our after school singing ensemble. The group meets from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m., each week on alternating days in the Upper School Chorus Room. All voice parts are welcome, and members do not need to be in Chorus to join. The group performs at the Winter and Spring Upper School concerts, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Cabaret and other impromptu events. The selections are primarily "pop" in nature, and sometimes involve movement.

SeeArtRun is a student-curated art gallery located on the second floor of Mitchell Hall.

This is a group of mostly Middle School Students who meet each Wednesday from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the Upper School Chorus Room to play our school's three octave handbell set. The group performs at both the Winter and Spring Middle School concerts. Membership is open to interested Upper School students as well.

Students in this club are encouraged to utilize their creativity. Ideas are shared, talents are nourished and artworks are produced. In addition to fruitful meetings, the students enjoy opportunities to exhibit their creations during the winter and spring concerts.

Student explore programming, game making with Microsoft Kodu, build computers and more. The club meets every Thursday afternoon after school.

Admission to Chamber Singers is by audition only for 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Students who are selected must demonstrate the ability to match pitch, project their voice and show above average musical ability, as well as exhibit leadership and a strong sense of responsibility to the group. This group will be called upon to perform and represent Nichols in the community and will participate in a spring adjudication. There are many solo and small opportunities available for students who would like the opportunity to do more than sing in the larger ensemble. Singers meet two days per week during study time. A final grade will be given at the end of the year based on the grading rubric handed out at the beginning of the term. All students and parents are required to sign a commitment contract, which is to be returned at the end of the first full week of rehearsals. Students also are required to participate in three concerts, Holiday, Eine Kleine and the Spring Performance, as well as competition in the late spring.

Comprised of approximately 45 students in grades 5-8, the Band has students with abilities ranging from beginning to advanced. The group performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts, and is adjudicated annually at the High Note and NYSSMA Ensemble Festivals. Students in Concert Band attend weekly lessons and may elect to take part in the All-County and NYSSMA Solo Festivals. Each year our School is represented by several Nichols students in the All-County and Area All-State Band, Chorus and Orchestra.

The club's mission is to explore challenging math problems in a fun and collaborative way. They meet on a weekly basis after school.

Violin, viola, cello and string bass players of all abilities are invited to join this ensemble. This group usually consists of several ability-grouped smaller ensembles that come together for concerts to play chamber orchestra music.

Formerly known as Theatre Team, The Kimberly Players is open to any students interested in drama. The group meets after school twice a week to practice improvisation and other acting techniques, and produces short plays throughout the year. In 2011, the club was renamed The Kimberly Players in honor and memory of Mr. Kim Kimberly '47, who had his students doing plays at Nichols School before there was a drama program.

All 5th graders participate in chorus and sing in the winter and spring concerts. This group meets weekly. Many solo performance opportunities are available for interested students. This group gives our students the basic singing skills and stage presence that they will need throughout their middle school career. The students' classroom experience in music is often coordinated with their chorus work to give them a well-rounded musical background along with important performance skills. Attendance at the performances and rehearsals is mandatory, and assessment will take place at the end of the year with a progress report and a final grade in this class.
