Golf Camp

Five days of driving range and on-course instruction at Harvest Hill, Arrowhead, Bob-O-Link and Delaware Park golf courses. These distinct facilities provide golfers with focused learning in putting, chipping and pitching, sand play, as well as the long game. Emphasis on etiquette, rules and mechanics. Convenient drop-off and pick-up at Nichols. Participants will need their own basic set of golf clubs and equipment.

Middle School Boy's Lacrosse Camp

This camp will provide 5th through 8th grade boys' with a fun and intense learning environment where they can work hard on skill development and increase their knowledge of the game. Our primary focus is to develop proper stick mechanics through repetition. Players will have an opportunity to demonstrate these learned skills in game situations on a daily basis. Player evaluations will be available at the end of the program highlighting player's progress and outline suggestions for future improvement.

At least one year of Lacrosse experience is required. Proper equipment required - stick, helmet, mouthguard, gloves, arm and shoulder pads.

Baseball Youth Camp

June 21-23
Boys entering grades 6-9

The focus of this program is to show campers the dynamic and strategically challenging team sport of baseball with its unique individual and team components taught the Vikings way! Equally important is our wish that each camper receive lessons in the concept of teamwork, commitment and preparation and hopefully a new and lasting appreciation and love for the great game of baseball.

This skill development camp will include age/skill appropriate instruction designed to introduce and/improve baseball skills. Each session will include specific instruction in fielding and batting presented in fun, challenging and competitive drills. Drills will be focused on mechanics and fundamentals. Sessions will end with 30 minute, fun game-like situation drills in a controlled format so the player can utilize the skills taught in a competitive setting.

We invite all boys, regardless of their skill level or experience to join us for this camp of instruction, learning and fun- the Vikings way! All players will benefit from attending our camp.

Writing for the College Application

We are now offering a second class!

Open to rising seniors

For three days, students will have the opportunity to work intensively on the various narrative parts of the college application: the personal essay, the supplemental essay, and the "Why our college?" essay. Developed by Larry Desautels, this course will be taught by Nichols Writing Center coordinators Lolly Errickson and Julia Marthia. Students will be able to work with these teachers one-on-one to conference and generate ideas for their essays. They will provide continued support through the summer to help complete these essays. Both Mrs. Errickson and Mrs. Marthia have been supporting students in this particular writing process at Nichols School for several years.

Girl Power

"Getting to the Heart of Girls"

Creates a fun and safe environment for girls to empower their hearts, minds, and spirits. Activities will include artwork, crafts, movement, nutrition, and more. Art supplies and other materials provided. Celebrate the uniqueness of you! Developed and directed by Wendy Amato, Nichols' Wellness teacher. The week culminates with a special luncheon prepared by the girls for their mother.

Nichols Driver Education course combines the benefits of practical driving skills and defensive driving techniques for the safe and responsible operation of a motor vehicle.

Successful completion of this course will qualify the student for DMV certification (formerly Blue Card) and insurance reduction certificate. (Please check with your insurance company to ensure this fulfills their requirements for a premium reduction).

The program consists of 24 hours of in-vehicle instruction, including six hours behind the wheel and an additional 24 hours of classroom instruction.

Students must turn 16 years of age by June 29, 2016, and hold a valid learner's permit or driver's license to participate.

Students are permitted to miss no more than two regularly scheduled classes and must attend make-up classes that will be made available on select Friday's. Students must attend all 16 classes in order to meet the State Education Department requirements for successful completion.

All students will receive 90 minutes of "in-car" and 90 minutes of classroom instruction daily (three hours total). The program is available from 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Registration requests will be honored as they are received.

Musical Theatre Program

We are thrilled to be in our fourth year of production! Join us July 11-22 for a two-week musical theatre intensive that concludes with a live performance of The Music Man! This program focuses on all three aspects of musical theatre: acting, singing, and dancing. The schedule consists of rehearsals for the final productions, daily dance and exercise classes, headshots, resume workshops, and more! Daily hours are 10am-6pm.

The program costs $450 if you register before April 1st and $500 after April 1st.

Improv Intensive

For students in grades 8-12

This year, we are proud to introduce a new week-long program for improvisation. Join us July 25-29 for an intensive focusing on long form improvisation most famous from the Second City and ImprovOlympic in Chicago. Students will learn the foundational elements of long form improvisation in preparation for a full performance of a Harold, a classic full-length improvised show. They will also learn short form games as seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway? Daily hours are 10am-6pm.

This program costs $250.

Physics SAT II Preparation

This course is ideal for Nichols students that have completed Advanced Physics in 9th grade and want to take the SAT II in Physics. Our Advanced Physics course does not cover two topics that are included in the SAT. During this one week workshop, we will have exploration labs, group discussions and classwork that will prepare students for these two extra topics. All work will be done during the meeting time with no outside homework commitments. In addition, you will be added to the SAT II Physics Schoology group which will give you access to sample tests and other preparation tools until you take the test, at no additional cost.
