Nichols School is pleased to announce that we have a variety of exciting and affordable summer programs for 2009. Golf Camp
A Unique Opportunity for all Ability Levels

Five days of driving range and on-course instruction at Harvest Hill, Bright Meadows, South Shore, Bob-O-Link and Ironwood golf courses.  The camp will use these distinct facilities to provide golfers with focused learning in putting, chipping, pitching, sand play, and the long game.

  • Emphasis on etiquette/rules and swing mechanics
  • Convenient Drop-off and Pick-up at Nichols
  • Developed and directed by the Nichols School Golf Coach, Ronald Montesano
  • Counselors include members of the Nichols School Girls and Boys varsity golf teams

Session 1:  June 22 - June 26,  8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - SESSION ONE IS FULL - no more registrations being taken
Session 2:  June 29 - July 3,    8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Cost: $335.00 per session
Ages 9 - 14
 

Basketball Camp
Be a part of the tradition!

  • The goal of the camp is to enhance the skills of middle school boys that are necessary to compete at the high school level
  • Players will learn sound fundamentals in ball handling, shooting, passing, post play, guard play and defense
  • The coaching staff will work closely with players to improve individual skills
  • Developed and directed by the Nichols School Varsity Basketball Coaching Staff and Head Coach Greg Plumb
  • Counselors include members of the Nichols School Varsity Basketball team

June 29 - July 1,    9:00 a.m. – 12 noon
Cost: $75.00 per camper
Boys grades 6 - 9


Hockey Camp

  • Full-day hockey school for boys and girls
  • Individual and team skills development
  • Daily off-ice activities include soccer, basketball and ball hockey
  • Camp runs 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday with lunch provided on these days
  • Friday is "Game Day" and we will dismiss before lunch
  • Developed by Nichols School Boys Hockey Coach, Tim Vanini ‘87

Session 1:  August 10 - August 14, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Session 2: August 17 - August 21, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Cost - $325 per session              
Boys and girls, ages 7 - 12

Performance Camp

  • Emphasis on multi-directional 1st. step quickness, explosive power, acceleration, conditioning, speed and agility
  • Learn one of the secrets to improve speed that must be employed during each speed training session for maximal results
  • Find out how to maximize your vertical jump and change of direction quickness
  • Directed by Jason Long MS, CSCS, CPT
  • Register by May 16 and receive a free T-shirt, Functional Movement Screen, Dynamic Movement Assessment and consultation
  • Space is limited, registration closes June 16

Girl Power
“Getting to the Heart of Girls”

  • Designed to create a fun and safe environment for girls to empower their hearts, minds and spirits
  • Activities will include artwork, crafts, movement, nutrition and more
  • A healthy snack, art supplies and other materials will be provided
  • Celebrate the uniqueness of you
  • Developed and directed by Wendy Amato, Nichols School Wellness Coordinator

June 15 - June 19, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Girls ages 10 - 14  (Grades 5 - 8)

 

Boy Camp
“Where Boys can be Boys”

  • Designed to empower boys to take charge of their lives and their decisions
  • Learn to rely on others in a noncompetitive setting
  • Have fun building, inventing, acting, playing games and much, much more
  • Healthy snack and all materials will be provided
  • Developed and directed by Wendy Amato, Nichols School Wellness Coordinator, and Mike Salmon, Nichols School teacher

June 22 - June 26, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Cost: $175.00
Boys ages 10 - 14  (Grades 5 - 8)

 

Math & Science Enrichment Camp

  • Explore the fun in math and science through hands on projects and experiential field trips
  • Learn to build a rocket and visit Moog's Aerospace Division
  • How does electricity work? Figure it out and visit Niagara Falls and the Power Authority
  • Learn observation techniques and tour the Tropical Rain Forest at the Buffalo Zoo
  • Build bridges and cantilevers and learn about architecture at the Darwin Martin House
  • All this plus the Olmsted Parks and the Buffalo State Planetarium

June 15 - June 19,  9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Cost: $250.00

Writing for the College Application
Get a Head Start on the College Application Process

  • Instruction on writing all aspects of the college application, with a focus on the “personal statement”
  • Three-week course consists of six, three-hour intensive workshops
  • On-site, one-on-one tutorial available
  • Small class size
  • Directed by Nichols English teacher Larry Desautels

July 14 – July 30, Tuesdays and Thursdays,  10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Cost: $350.00
Open to high school seniors
 


SAT Prep Course
Focused instruction for the Scholastic Aptitude Test

  • Intensive concentration on the verbal and mathematic components of the test
  • Addresses all aspects of the test-taking experience, including time management and problem-solving strategies
  • All course materials included in enrollment fee
  • Small class size
  • Directed by Nichols School English Department Chair, Roddy Potter

August 3 - August 14, 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Cost: $350.00 per session
Open to high school juniors and seniors
 


Driver Education

  • Combines the benefits of practical driving skills and defensive driving techniques
  • Program consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of in-vehicle instruction, including 6 hours behind the wheel
  • Will qualify the student for DMV Certification and insurance reduction certificate
  • Students must attend all scheduled classes to meet requirements for successful completion

July 6 - August 14
Cost: $440
Open to students 16 years and older with valid learner permit or drivers license by the first day of class

Lacrosse Clinic


A fun, exciting, and up-tempo clinic with an emphasis on improving stick skills, offensive and defensive concepts, game strategies, situational play and rules. Players will receive personal attention and top level instruction from Buffalo Bandits defenseman, Joe Smith.
